I hope you all had a fun and relaxing break this holidays, I can't believe that it's school time again already!
I promised at the end of last season that I'd share some details about entry to Waverley Blues Under 9s, so here goes! As a spoiler if you don't make it all the way to the bottom, Waverley Blues Registration Night is next Wednesday evening - 7th February.
Under 9s Eligibility
To be eligible for the upcoming season, players need to have turned seven before 30 April, 2018, and must have been eight or under as of 31 December, 2017. This means most kids are eligible to play for two years, and some (those born from January to April) are eligible for three.
Under 10s+ Eligibility
If your player turned nine last year, then they are eligible for Under 10s this year. Likewise, eligibility for older age groups are based on their age as of the end of last year.
In Under 9s there is strictly no tackling, and no scores are recorded. There are a few other modifications as well - eg. shortened quarters, no throw-ins, etc. In Under 10s there is limited tackling and still no scoring.
Team Structure, Training, and Games
Last year we had two Under 9s teams, which were split into fairly even numbers based on schools. So in my son's team for example we had players from Pinewood, Syndal South, and Mt. Waverley North primary schools. I don't know how the teams will be divided this year, some other clubs seem to base it on experience levels.
Each week we had one training session as well as the game. Training times are reliant on coach and ground availability. Last year both teams had training on Friday evenings at around 5pm, at Pinewood.
Games start at 9am on Sundays. We had our home games at either Pinewood or Mt Waverley, away games were spread around the Eastern suburbs, I think the furthest away last year was Kilsyth or The Basin. Games are finished by 10am.
Players need to have Waverley Blues EFL shorts and long socks for games, game jumpers are presented at the start of the season. Shorts and socks can be purchased from the club. All players must wear a mouthguard, which can take a bit of getting used to. You can use "boil and bite" style mouthguards, or have them professionally fitted.
Waverley Blues are using Sporting Pulse the Official Registration and Payments System of the EFL to register all players.

For more information about regos visit http://wbfc.com.au/player-registration/ - this page includes details of fees as well. For any further registration enquiries, please give Cathy Eames (Club Secretary) a call on 0419 365 060.
The club is holding a registration night on Wednesday 7th February 2018 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Mt Waverley Reserve.
All players are encouraged to register online before registration night and then come along on the night to meet the coaches, catch up with team mates, etc
On the night you can buy shorts, socks and other gear (training tops and jackets are always popular) and optionally purchase and have fitted a mouthguard from SportsSafe Australia.
Hopefully this email has answered many of the questions you may have had about getting into Junior Footy, please let me know if you have any other queries though. I'll be at the Registration Night next Wednesday and hope to see many of you there!
