Waverley Blues Appoints Bryce McGain Senior/Club Head Coach 2018

As the Blues look to the future, our coaching appointment for the 2018 season was considered to be critical for our club’s long term success. Our club is ready to take big steps forward with regards to professionalism, performance, culture, development and sustainability. McGain has a track record of developing players to play to proven AFL successful structures. He also has history with driving personal leadership performance programs that create club and team first culture. These qualities and aspects with McGain’s coaching repertoire were extremely important toward his appointment.

The McGain philosophy is simple "always give your best and give yourself every chance to get the best out of yourself by preparing at your best!"  As the club Senior/Head Coach McGain will help each player be able to get the most out of themselves by challenging each player with personal development programs designed to ensure players can and do get the best out of themselves over the course of a football season.

Bryce McGain maybe best known as a late blooming professional cricketer who successfully represented his state for many years and was also able to reach the highest pinnacle having played test cricket for Australia. Prior to his professional cricket commitments McGain played many years of senior club football and was able to juggle the football/cricket combination successfully.

Bryce McGain is no stranger to Waverley Blues having successfully coached his son Liam and his team mates in two Premierships over the last few years in our youth football program. The U17 A EFL flag winner performance in 2016 was judged by many as an outstanding result from a group of young men that had been coached superbly by McGain. Many football observers that day were amazed to see young men executing elite level set ups with contemporary AFL coaching structures and strategies. The same methodology that is driving our U19 2017 campaign that is being led by McGain this year as their current Coach.

Bryce McGain is the Managing Director of the McGain Group. An organization Waverley Blues has been deploying to drive and implement junior development programs within our Academy charter over the past three years. While Bryce and his colleagues have been instrumental with player development, it's the Coach the Coaches program that have been of great value to our club and will ensure a sustainable, successful future is in place within our club resultant from our Academy platform.

The McGain Group has many proven and experienced AFL ex players & coaches as resources our club has called upon with our development charter. While a number of key support function roles within the coaching structure are still to be made for 2018, the club is committed to support McGain to appoint the best proven AFL experienced ex players and coaches to help lead and develop Waverley Blues players. The club will have layers of professional leaders with successful backgrounds supporting our development programs.

The club is also pleased to announce McGain has been able to secure the services of Lindsay Gilbee as a Specialist Support Coach for season 2018. A 206 AFL game player with the Western Bulldogs, current St Kilda Assistant Coach and Senior Coach of Sandringham FC, Gilbee will be a welcomed inclusion into the leadership and development group McGain is assembling for the 2018 season.

What was evident throughout the appointment process with McGain was very clear. A proven sports professional leader that sets high standards for himself and all those around him. A student of the AFL game who surrounds himself with the highest caliber of known and experienced proven leaders. While known for his leadership, strategies, tactics and game structure he is best known by his players for his player welfare program.

Bryce McGain is a respected leader of people amongst his peers and is recognized by many sports people whom Bryce has coached as an outstanding mentor who will challenge all players to get the best out of themselves week in week out.

Waverley Blues is delighted to announce this critical Senior/Head Coach appointment and know our club leadership toward our playing capability is in great hands with Bryce in command.

Please join us by congratulating Bryce as we look to our future with great optimism and positive anticipation!!!
